All FDA approved Food Grade Plastics are not the same. In fact there are several, about 7 major players with some minor variations. They are all made with chemicals, and Dr. Clark states what she believes to be the safest variety of all food grade plastic is HDPE Plastic. We all know the strange plastic taste water can get from a clear plastic bottle. HDPE is never crystal clear. HDPE Plastic is what most gallon sized milk jugs are made from. It is usually a milky semi-clear plastic or a solid opaque white. Dr. Clark advises not to use a colored variety, as the semi-clear or white HDPE seems to test best. HDPE stands for High Density Polyethylene. Over and over in the recipes in the back of Dr. Clark's new book, she mentions at the end of each recipe, store food or beverages only in HDPE plastic containers. She also states to NOT use cling wrap, aluminum foil, enamel ware, Teflon, glass, wood, Styrofoam or other plastics to prepare or store food. One is left with basically High Quality Stainless Steel for cooking and HDPE plastic for food, beverages, herbs, and home made body product storage.
